The Stunning New Jerpoint & Green Leaf Cheese Domes
Thomastown is a bustling and vibrant centre for craft, art and music. The latest addition to the town’s landscape is the new cultural gift shop on Market Street. ‘The Makers’ Market’ brings together 19 Irish makers under the one roof in Karen Morgan Porcelain studio.
When creative people get together something special always happens! The craftspeople of The Makers’ Markets teamed up, sharing their skills and crafts to work together on collaborative pieces.
Jerpoint joined up with Green Leaf Furniture, a local furniture maker where all of the pieces are hand crafted from greenwood - fresh felled trees.
Together we created these magnificent cheese domes. The large glass domes are hand-blown by Rory and James here at Jerpoint Glass Studio and the base has been hand carved by Muga Moran from Green Leaf Furniture using greenwood and the same tools and techniques that were used hundreds of years ago. First the dome is free blown without the use of moulds to guide the shape, then Mugga shapes the piece of Ash to form a perfect fit with the glass dome. Ash is extremely strong and these two ancient crafts work beautifully together.
This is a real statement pieces for the centre of a table at a party or a very impressive way to end a dinner party. They are so tactile and simply beautiful.
The Green Leaf & Jerpoint Cheese Domes are exclusively available from The Makers’ Market and Jerpoint Glass Studio shop. Prices start from €250 depending on the size.
